Re-Opening! - New Regent Street

First established in Christchurch during the depths of the 1930s Great Depression, New Regent Street is made up of pastel-hued shops in Spanish Mission style terraced architecture. It provided jobs when it was first built and it's now helping Christchurch recover again, this time as a fore-runner of inner-city regeneration. There is still evidence here of earthquake damage, with a few shops still boarded up, waiting for permission to re-occupy. This is such a familiar pattern of frustration for many all over Christchurch. Goodness only knows why these few shops haven't had the go-ahead.

Unfortunately this weekend's weather has put a damper on the re-opening festivities, and the few shops that opened in time must have been disappointed.
However, it's all very heartening that this area has opened up again, and will be a magnet for many, locals and visitors alike. They say that the tram will run again!!

A friend and I took our cameras and had fun, taking pics of reflections, both in puddles and windows. What a good way to spend a rather wet Sunday afternoon :)
