Hypericum Starbursts
My brother's back is finally on the mend after three days and a lot of pain - he even managed a small jog - well actually more of a lopsided trot (he would agree with this description!) - with me today. Strangely he also felt fit enough to walk from the car to the pub for our usual Saturday pint and chinwag!
Today's shot is of a plant called Hypericum. It is a genus of flowering plants which has a nearly worldwide distribution - missing only from tropical lowlands, deserts and polar regions (although it has managed to survive in the exotic location of the gap between our outside kitchen wall and our driveway). It can also go by two rather more unfortunate monikers - St.John's Wort and Goatweed.
It might not exactly be a heralded plant but I love the combination of the delicate yellow star shaped flowers with the green leaves, red stems and the tiny red berries. The colours really burst out at me when the sunlight hit them. It also grows happily with no intervention from my resolutely un-green fingers!
