Five O'Clock Seating at the Pretty in Pink Diner

The pink rhododendrons have been amazing this year. The flowers out in front of the house - which are about the size of dinner plates - typically bloom in early May. The ones behind the deck bloom in late May. May has grown quite long in the tooth now, and I'm sorry to say that these blossoms are just a heartbeat or two away from petal-fall.

We have one of our hummingbird feeders hanging over the deck. It is not as popular as the one in the meadow, but it gives us a chance to do some tiny-birdwatching. I got a new monopod from Amazon a couple of weeks ago and I was sitting by the window with the camera attached to it, watching for birds.

As the day moved forward, the sunlight shifted. As it was coming from the woods behind us, it shone through those beautiful pink flowers. It was good timing, too, as this little male ruby throat showed up for the 5 o'clock feeding at the Pretty in Pink Diner.

My soundtrack song has to be this one: the Psychedelic Furs, with Pretty in Pink.

This shot is a companion piece to this earlier shot, of a female ruby throat at the same feeder, with the pink flowers behind it!
