How do we judge - or measure - a life's work?

Today there was the burial of our friend Janne. He passed away at the age of ninety.

At the reception were old friends telling us about Jannes' younger days. Some sort of measuring instrument was demonstrated and passed around. Janne 1949 built this meter, when he was seventeen. Everything was hand built including most of the inner parts. He spent his life as a specialized civil engineer, focusing in nitty-gritty details, especially in measurement.

But it also must must be said that Janne was the greatest humanist, deeply involved in art, litterature, arcitecture and music. Above all he was a fantastic photographer. One of my rolemodels.

To me this technical instrument represents the beauty of his soul, not just a meter. Rest in peace Janne.
