Egrets, I've had a few
A Great White Egret comes into land, looking remarkable like a cross between Big Bird from Sesame Street and the famous shot of Marilyn Monroe in "that" dress as she posed above the Subway vent.
Once, not so long ago, it was quite a rarity to see the Great White Egret, which is about the same size as a the Grey Heron, to which it is related. But nowadays large successful European populations of the bird mean that it is fairly widespread here in the UK. This one was taken relatively early in the day. I was hoping that it might catch a fish while I had such a clear view of it, but sadly it didn't manage it. While I was watching it, it did have a go a catching a dragonfly that was hovering a little close to it, but it wasn't quick enough and the dragon escaped to live a little longer.
If you look in large you will see lots of tiny blue damsels in the air around the Egret - the reed beds were full of the things.
Oh, yes, I've added an extra of a bittern as they are still quite rare sights.
