V & A, Dundee...

Today the weather was supposed to be raining so we had planned to visit Perth Museum and Art Gallery and the Fergusson Gallery, but when we headed out, the sun was shining and the temperature gauge in the car registered 18, then 19 then 20 degrees!

We got parked easily in Perth, just around the corner from Perth Museum so we headed there and spent an entertaining hour learning about the origins of Perth, local history and seeing lots of stuffed animals and birds (they were very well done I have to say.  None of them grimacing or cross eyed! :-)

When we left the museum the sun was still shining, and in search of lunch, we ended up sitting outside at Cafe Kisa.  We enjoyed another lovely and rather leisurely lunch, marvelling at the fact we were outside and it wasn't cold.  Not what we expected to be doing for lunch.

There was one very exciting moment when the man at the table behind David accidentally knocked his (thankfully) empty beer glass off the table and when it hit the ground it bounced quite high whilst simultaneously shattering into a million pieces that rained down on us covering about a 6 foot radius!  Thankfully no one was harmed by the flying glass.

It was almost 4.00pm when we left the cafe and rather than go inside to another museum (plus it was almost closing time) we headed to Dundee as Patricia had expressed interest in seeing the V&A building.

We managed to park right outside and had a wander around the building and across to the HMS Discovery, who sits in dry dock just beside the museum.

We then took Patricia a drive across the Tay road bridge and back, so she could see the sunshine reflected on the water creating the well known silvery Tay.

We decided to finish our trip by driving up Dundee Law, a 572 foot peak which gives stunning views over Dundee, the Firth of Tay and the Tay Estuary.  

The Law was an Iron Age hill fort (graves dating to 1500bc have been found on its slopes, and now contains a Memorial to the fallen of the Second World War) but we didn't know how to get there.  No problem, I said, I will get the directions on my phone.  

And so ensued a hilarious 10 minutes as we tried to navigate our way around a very busy Dundee city centre, with the sat nav lady in my phone barking far too many directions at once!  Turn left into blah blah blah then turn right into blah blah blah, straight over blah blah blah then take the third  exit at the roundabout and next left into blah blah blah....all this just as a traffic light turns green and we're in the wrong lane and there's no street signs....we were hysterical by the end!  But we got there :D  And enjoyed the stunning views.

Home to a very light dinner as that was all we could manage after our substantial lunch, and a catch up of the Jubilee celebrations.  

Another lovely day....and more excitement tomorrow as my blip pal Strawhouse and her family joins us for one night.  Can't wait!  Been dying to meet her and her lovely lot for years.  It could get messy!  :-))) 
Oh and ten years ago today we moved here! It’s gone by in a blink!
