Stag Beetle

I discovered this beautiful stag beetle outside my back door this morning. He seemed a long way from home so I ‘rescued’ him and put him over the fence at the end of my back garden where he’ll enjoy lots of decomposing leaves and other greenery. Stag beetles particularly like oak trees. So he’ll be happy there, I hope!

I measured him before I rescued him. Almost 5cm (2 inches) long. They can grow bigger!
