Wonderful Wisley
Having bought myself a season ticket to Wisley, I persuaded Mr Flossmo to accompany me on a visit. We got there just before opening time, 10 o'clock, to find there was already a sizable queue at the entrance. It moved quite quickly and we were soon through to the other side. There were many visitors but Wisley absorbs them well and it didn't feel crowded. We wandered along the paths and admired the fruit and vegetable sections at the new Hilltop area. There is so much to see and admire that it is difficult to home in on just one thing but I was particularly attracted by the irises. There were so many different colours, shapes and markings it was hard to choose a favourite. The best name went to a dark purple iris called Midnight Caller; how evocative is that? It made me wonder how often we are attracted to something just because of it's name. We had a pleasant early lunch under an umbrella - sunshine was intermittent but when it was out it was hot. We left about one o'clock deciding to not try and do too much in a single visit. As we left we were shocked to see people still arriving in droves. There are five capacious car parks at the entrance but even so cars were parked along the verges and as we decided to take the country route back we found there were some emergency car parks further out with people walking back to the gardens. I have never seen it that full before. Full marks to Wisley for coping with the onslaught. Perhaps Wisely management should be dealing with the airports. I think today the early bird definitely caught the worm.
