Birch shield bug

I haven’t spent a lot of time outdoors today but did manage an hour or so in our garden this afternoon. While wandering around I found this lovely shield bug loitering on the rose bush :)
We spent this evening at the June meet of the ASE - the talk was by an 80 year old gentleman who is a retired lighting engineer and still works assessing light pollution levels for areas wanting to be considered for Dark Sky status. His current project is based on the island of St Helena in the south Atlantic!
