Scotland's Leading Light
The last rays of sun catching Kinnaird Head Lighthouse, lit and decked out in bunting for two evenings to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee. The lighthouse situated atop Kinnaird Castle was decommissioned in 1991 without being automated. Boys of the First Company Fraserburgh Boys'Brigade have manned the clockwork winding mechanism to keep the lantern rotating. The weighted pulley chain stretches down the central spiral staircase inside the tower of the Castle. (Shown in the extra)
The poles in front of the lighthouse were used for drying fishing nets.
