A Potted History of Magritte, Aylesford

I've always loved the surrealism of Magritte's paintings. They are full of strangeness, hints of ennui and an unsettling melancholy that can be witty or thought provoking, or even both at the same time. Of course, the bowler hat was one of his motifs with it's suggestions of an office job for life but he also used it in such away as to suggest there is a form of escape even if it may be illusory.
