Bee on Aquilegia

Having watched bees on the aquilegias in my garden for the past week or so I have been surprised that they concentrate on the back of the flower rather than the centre. Having googled this, my suspicions have been confirmed, and it seems that the ‘spurs’ on the back of the aquilegia (columbine) flower, are filled with sweet nectar which feeds the bees and other pollinators. I’m happy to have a lot of aquilegias in my garden which self seed every year, look pretty, and help to feed the bees!
