Brunel, Swindon
The children were taking part in the St George's day parade in Swindon as they are both Air Scouts. Mr CFJ and I decided to go for a walk around the old railway village, using the heritage trail map of Swindon. It's a fascinating area- all the housing, Turkish baths, swimming pool and park areas were built for the workers at the GWR works.
There were lots of potential Blip pictures- the Mechanics Institute ( unfortunately boarded up and awaiting either the fate of the bulldozer or the lottery), the railway cottages, the Glue Pot pub ( we had a quick drink in here- a lovely traditional pub) or the old barracks.
I decided on this one of Mr Brunel, however. It's outside the hideous "Brunel shopping centre" - I'm sure there are sadly many people who think of the shopping centre rather than his great influence in Swindon.
