Hoping to win
I went to watch the London Marathon today - the first time I have been. It was a sunny, bright day, perfect for spectators although perhaps a little warm for the runners.
My husband ran in his long sleeved Boston Marathon finishers' shirt, and I soon realised that he would be regretting that decision as it was too warm for that shirt. However, it was not a sartorial decision but rather a statement - and he also wore his black ribbon in honour of those who died on Monday. He enjoyed the marathon but finished in agony after 3 hours 32 minutes - I think he has now realised the foolishness of running two marathons in a week at his age.
It was wonderful to be part of the crowd cheering the runners on, and I took many photos which can be seen here
Here you can see the Kenyan runner Emmanuel Mutai who won this marathon in 2011 and was leading most of the way, hoping to win it again. However he finished in 2nd place in a time of 2 hours 6 minutes, a mere 30 seconds behind the winner.
