Toms Quarry
The sun was out today but the forecast was mixed so instead of heading down the beach or up the hills a friend and I headed out to a quarry.
They are fascinating places at the best of times and hold many surprises. Fossils, rock formations and local history abound and Toms Quarry is no exception. Unusually for an industrial site of this type walkers, cyclists and joggers are encouraged to use the roads around the workings. Common sense is expected of course and users are asked not to encroach during the working hours of 7am to 5pm weekdays, which seems quite reasonable in my opinion.
It's a brilliant place. Full of wildlife and friendly dump truck drivers. Today both were in show off mode since it was Sunday. Did you know that a deer can jump a 10ft fence and that a 40 ton dump truck can skid round a corner at 35mph without overturning?
Brilliant!
