Goodbye to the Rumblecat

In the stories I write for Hani and Zay, Dave is a "rumblecat".

They are not normal cats. They are the size of ponies, and they are full of love. All they want is to be loved.

And when they purr, it is so loud that the earth rumbles.

I couldn't have written that. I could not have imagined such a lovable character if I had never met Dave.

Now he is gone. A neighbour found him in her doghouse, curled up as if in peaceful sleep. She called Caro who brought him back to us and we buried him with flowers and seeds in his favourite blanket in his favourite spot in our garden, underneath the huge Yucca tree.

He loved to sit in that spot. He would stay there for hours.

There will be birds right there for him to watch, and he can make biscuits on his favourite blanket and he can sleep as long as he likes.

Dave will never be gone. He will always be inside my heart. And he'll continue to have adventures and make Hani and Zay laugh.

And he'll rumble. Because he knows Hani and Zay love him. And Caro loves him. And I love him.

And in his favourite spot in our garden, if I listen very carefully, I shall hear the ground rumble.
