Wonder-full day
We left the confines of the hotel today for an excursion to see one of the Wonders of the World….Chichen Itza.
Although it was an early start, it meant we were there whilst it was a little less scorchio and before the crowds arrived.
Our guide, Carlos, was very knowledgable and had a cheeky sense of humour too. He took us around the main sites, telling us all about the Mayan culture and pointing out various interesting bits of the architecture, before leaving us to wander on our own for a while.
It was a bit smaller than I’d expected and surrounded by all the usual souvenir tat stalls all touting for trade, but we are definitely glad we went.
Lunch was at a local restaurant; a typical Mexican meal followed by a spot of tequila tasting. Did you know…they do a cream of tequila (similar to Baileys)?
We’d not been back in our room long when the head concierge paid us a visit. He wanted to apologise for the ‘hiccup’ with my flowers and offered us a free Bali bed on the beach on a day of our choice.
These are usually $55 a day and come with an exclusive butler service, just for that section of the beach.
We accepted both the apology and the upgrade.
Then, after checking my emails, I find one from TUI who have offered us compensation for the delay of our outbound flight!
We celebrated this by ordering room service. I’ve never done this before so it felt like a real treat and it was nice to eat steak on the balcony in my pj’s.
It truly was a day of wonders! :-)
