Kids!
We have a bird feeder set up only a few metres from our kitchen window; this morning we noticed these small goldfinches trying to climb down the feeder from the hook at the top. One got the hang of it, but the other kept having to fly away for another approach, and here's the little tike staring at the food through the perspex, occasionally pecking at it.
Eventually he found the food in the tray, underfoot as it were, but we didn't see him peck in the apertures. Our front garden is a bit of a highway for small birds, zooming this way and that, as if on some sort of racing circuit. The climbing shrub (in the background) is home to at least one blackbird family and some sparrows. I took this photo through the window, but I might have to devise a hide for better images.
