Cycling the Cardinal Greenway trail
A fine sunny day in the forecast, and we headed back into Indiana, to the town of Richmond, to cycle on the Cardinal Greenway trail. We have ridden sections of this trail before, and it is a really good, well maintained trail through agricultural Indiana, equipped with numerous trailheads, offering parking, picnic tables and benches, porta loos, and often a stand with bicycle tools chained to it, and many with information boards telling you something about local history. It parallels the road for some of its stretch, so I decided to aim for 20 miles return, thinking, that if I ran out of energy on the way back, Roger could always ride on and fetch the car! However I successfully managed the 20 miles, so I was quite pleased with myself. When we’d finished our ride we drove into Richmond to see some of their murals, which I’d read about and seen on the internet, but we were actually a bit disappointed with some of them - smaller and in poorer condition than they are shown online. The barn shown in the lower right was at our turn around spot, and was attached to a beautifully maintained farmhouse and garden.
