UCI Women's Tour 2022

The tour came to our village again this year. Last year, they rode right past our house - sadly, I had to be miles away in the office at Basildon! This year, the route was altered slightly, but it was only a few minutes walk away, and it happened during lunch break too.

We were so lucky to see them, but as they were all bunched after a drink stop, all 97 riders passed by in a matter of seconds. One geeky cyclist point of interest is the lack of rim brakes on their bikes. Having enjoyed a mountain bike for many years with disk brakes, I can't understand the argument for old-fashioned rim brakes persisting on a road bike, and it appears the pros agree with me. Oh, and the motorcyclists - I lost count of the number of police and other riders supporting the rolling road closure around the event, and they certainly knew what they were doing. Fabulous.
