Harcombe House
We were privileged today to be shown around Harcombe House, near Chudleigh, S Devon. We went with a social group called the Curious Club. The house belongs to the fire fighters charity, which exists to support the mental physical and social needs of all serving and retired members of the U.K.’s fire family. This is one of three residential centres that belong to the charity. The other two are at Penrith and Littlehampton. The facilities are second to none.
The house was originally built by Sir Edward Chaning Wills in 1912/13 . He was a member of the Wills tobacco family and was a director of the Imperial Tobacco Company.it is set in 300 acres of land.
It was World Swift Day, so in the evening we went to a talk on swifts. We learned so many amazing facts about this bird, which was the bird of the day.
