Last Stop on the Cammino San Benedetto
Montecassino Abbey. Once upon a time, the site of a Roman temple to Apollo, then in the 5th century AD, Benedict of Norcia and his fellow monks build a monastery here. He is famous for establishing writing the “Book of Rules for Monastic Life”. 1500 years later his rules are still followed around the world. St. Benedict’s Rule revolves around 5 practices: prayer, work, study, hospitality, and renewal. The rule offers people a plan for living a balanced, simple and prayerful life. It seems a bit Buddhist to me. Today we completed the Cammino San Benedetto…following the life of St. Benedict from his birthplace in Norcia to his final resting place in Montecassino…and places in between where he established monasteries. I’ve grown to like this guy. He’s a quite a saint. The extra is a statue of him, with halo.
