Lossiemouth
An unpleasant and lumpy sea to navigate - all 36nm to Lossiemouth. Wet weather gear. I was slightly concerned about the harbour entrance from the sailing guide:”In N to SE winds >F6 appr can be dangerous, with swell tending to break across hbr mouth and in outer hbr.” But hey, we were only top of F4. I called the Harbour Office. Yes come on in, the visitor berths are hard on your left…
So approach I did. This cropped shot of a wave breaking against the entrance should have sounded an alarm bell but it’s difficult to assess when you’re down at sea level. Soon after, as I closed to scout the situation, a wave broke around the boat and hurtled me forward three boat lengths, quite uncontrollably. Jeepers creepers. I accelerated for the entrance as soon as it put me down and immediately a subsiding wave pulled me aside, perilously close to the wall. But, shot in I did before the next surge.
Foolhardy may be the term correctly used for the whole endeavour. If I hadn’t got such a sun tan I’d have been white as a sheet.
Later blah blah shower blah Scotland v Armenia blah shake blah ache. Conk out.
