The V and A
More history - sorry! The Victoria and Albert is a hotel built in 1914 located just up the road in the village of Mount Victoria. Tourism in the Mountains was booming from 1900 up until WW2 but then entered the doldrums for 40 years as interstate and overseas travel became cheaper and more accessible.
The V and A was in a sorry state by 1985 when my friends (and good clients) Bob and Irene Reid renovated the building (and the business) to its former glory.
We lost Irene a couple of years ago but I spoke to Bob at the community markets last weekend - he’s pushing 90yo, going well and was, a few years ago, a worthy recipient of an AO (Order of Australia about equivalent to a CBE in Britain) for services to the community.
Under new ownership, the V and A is still functioning as a boutique hotel.
