The picture is the story

This famous photograph ( much reproduced ) was taken by former Scotsman staffer Dennis Straughan who died in April.

The midwife , taken at her work in Lochmaddy , North Uist in the late 50s (I think, though some commentators place it slightly later) is Cathleen’s aunt Catriona MacAskill and her great and most engaging personality ( full of life and humour) shines through.

We were at her funeral in Inverness today and the picture was much talked about .

How better to remember her than by reminding us all of it and her .
