Albert "Tootie" Heath Trio
A great evening of entertainment from this legacy jazz drummer. Tootie and his brothers played together for a little while from 1975 to 1978 but he first recorded with John Coltrane in 1957. He went on to play with some of the best jazz musicians; Miles Davis, Thelonius Monk, Dexter Gordon, Herbie Hancock, Sonny Rollins. He lived in Wilmington for awhile growing up. He had two young and classically trained musicians with him, Emmett Cohen (piano) and Russell (bass). He's currently 87 and he did an awesome job on drums. Entertaining us with some 1950's humor in between songs. You can have a listen here.
The photo of the trio was too washed out as we were sitting way back in case we wanted to leave early for the Celtics game - turns out we didn't have to. Two minutes to play and the C's are down by 3 points. A nail biter.
