writing on the wall.... er.... log

maya is in first grade and was sent home on friday with a project about water. it was to raise awareness about the importance of water conservation and the differences between our lifestyles and those that do not have running water. we learned that some families have to walk at least two miles one way to gather water daily. to give the kiddos an idea about how far this is, we hiked four miles today. i think they were very surprised how hard it was. they will sleep well tonight.
i liked the design that the bark beetle left behind on the fallen log on our trail.
