Today in Peterhead Harbour
I spent much of the morning at Peterhead harbour enjoying the variety of vessels tied up.
The main photograph is a most unusual ship, the like of which I have never seen before. This is the Camilla Eslea, the highest capacity thermolicer in the world!
You may well wonder what a thermolicer does for a living. Parasitic sea lice (a marine copepod) are a major problem in the salmon sea-farming industry. The Camilla Eslea uses warm sea water to remove the lice without harming the fish. Hence thermolicer, but being the pedant that I am I think that thermodelicer would be a better description. You can read a full account of the process here.
The extra is the Normand Jarstein, a massive offshore supply vessel serving the needs of the offshore oil industry.
