Tortoise plant (Dioscorea elephantipes)

I went to an event in the botanical gardens in Cambridge with a friend. We had a lovely time looking at all the weird and wonderful plants, including one that I thought at first had some weird sculpted wooden thing at the base, but which turned out to be part of the plant. It’s a tortoise plant – see photo.

Eventually, we had seen enough, and we popped to a nearby pub for gin refreshments.
