Mostar

we had a break in Mostar on the way back to Sarajevo so we could see the new old bridge. Sitting on a roof terrace up above the bridge, drinking...er....sipping, of course, local wine, watching the sun go down, hearing the call to prayer around us and the bells of the catholic church in front of us, talking about the war and trying to fully understand all the complicated details....it's hard to express in words what that feels like. I love the Balkans, I found Bosnia and Herzegovina even more fascinating and beautiful than I expected and everything I have studied about conflict and development makes me feel very negative about its future. It's heartbreaking when politics divides good people from seeing the goodness in each other.
