Nymph to Dragonfly

I have never seen this transition to a dragonfly, straight from a larva to an adult, before. This transition, the final larval moult, takes place out of water. This metamorphosis is triggered by day length and temperature apparently and it was very warm today at 1,600m at Frience. The lake where this was taken has been constructed for swimming but also for water wildlife conservation at altitude. I saw newts, frogs, two types of dragonflies, so it is working!

Hope everyone had a good weekend. A lot of mine was organising a trip to Skye and Mull in September. We, Josiane and I, fly into Edinburgh so maybe will meet some of you Scottish blippers then.
