An Taobh Siar

We explored the West Side of Lewis and Ness today taking in the Butt of Lewis, Port Ness, black houses at Gearrannan and, of course, the Callanish Stones.

We had a local guide who was excellent at telling us about the places we visited and passed through - she even pointed out Machair filming locations for me. 

It was interesting driving through the different townships - there were more of them than I realised and they were bigger than I expected. It was also interesting seeing the crofts and the areas where the peat had been cut.

We are now heading out to one of the few pubs in Stornway to meet a friend from Lancashire who is also on holiday here - it's a small world #1.

Two of our fellows coach passengers lived in Pitlochry for many years and friends with one family we have got to know - it's a small world #2.

Tomorrow we head south.
