Church of the Immaculate Conception, Broke NSW
Our exploration of the Hunter Valley today took us to Broke. I would not want to live in a town of that name as I regard it as inauspicious. In rich farming land, Broke had its hey day in the late 19th century but once the railway replaced the road it declined. In the 2016 census the population of Broke was 292. It could be lower now.
I was heartened that a few significant buildings remain including the school, an Anglican church and this Church of the Immaculate Conception, whose foundation stone was laid in 1904.
In line with the theme of contrasting colours, in this photo we have a glorious blue sky, the gorgeous colours in the red bricks, some green grass and the yellow of the mown. Look through the window and you will see the red, blue and orange of the stained glass at the other end of the building.
