View from the Church grounds

We had a choice of bus today for our planned walk to the hilltop village of Milies. It was 0710 or 1020. We opted for the later one given it's about a 4.5 mile walk to the top.

We had a beautiful walk up from the coast through olive groves, clouds of butterflies, wild flowers, and deep ravines to Milies a hill top village. We spotted a very large bee like insect with yellow dots on it's thorax must look it up later, l think it was a Mammoth Wasp. Annoyingly the last part of the climb is very steep just when you think you are there. We managed to take a wrong turn amongst the pathways and ended up above the village centre. A quick scamper down to a shady taverna where we had espressos, lots of iced water and traditional Greek food for lunch ie giant beans and a local speciality of sausage and peppers. We had visited here earlier in our holiday but then it was a longer steeper walk visiting other villages and we were exhausted so it was greater to linger in the shade of the plane trees over lunch. A quick look around the village before retracing steps down to sea-level for a late afternoon bus back to Afissos.

I was mindful of today's wide Wednesday hosted by Rockarea with it's theme of contrasting colours and thought this view taken from the churchyard of Milies with it's contrasting greens and red of the flowers fitted the bill.

We walked a total of 9.25 miles today. Strange that the new walking signs suggest the route is 5km each way. It was the same for the longer route we did very underestimated distances.
