Anyone know what this plant is

Its very tall with stiff sword like leaves and these strange flowers on a thick stem.
I saw it in a park a year or two ago and it had gone to seed so I took a few seeds and grew them on, those in tubs have stayed small but I planted this one in the garden and it has grown to this size. I have no idea what it is called so any help would be appreciated.

Its been a lovely day today a bit too warm at times, I got some more work done in the garden planting up pots, not a lot though. 

I am going to have to get a fan for my bedroom, it's quite warm in here tonight.
