How to... give a cat a pill
Taz escaped by a whisker a trip to the vet .
In the past he's swallowed worming pills embedded in his food without any difficulties.
Not today. He sniffed. He smelt a rat.
He dismissed award winning Scottish cheeses so I moved on to Camembert. That too got the nose up. All this after he had walked away from his favourite foods.
Nothing for it but to let him starve. Come lunchtime I tried him with some wild boar pate from our new delicatessen. He turned his back on it.
I googled "how to give cats pills." Most suggested cradling the cat in one arms and gently opening his mouth. Perish the thought. Taz is not a cat to be cradled.
He's big -36 inches top to tail and weighs in at a generous 5 kilos. (A friend called on Saturday and she said he is bigger than her daschunds.)
Even the vet wears gauntlets.
So I gave him one last chance before digging out the cat basket, well crate because he is too big for a cat basket.
I put some "salmon for seniors" (cats that is not people) into his food bowl.
He gobbled it. He was starving.
