Cocooned

Went down to Needham Lake - a local park based around an old gravel pit, now flooded, & the River Gipping - before it got too hot or too bright this morning, to take some photos for publicity for an orienteering event there next month. Some of the smaller trees in the little woodland section along the river were festooned with Small Ermine webs, now empty apart from debris (see extra) - but there were long strands leading down to batches of pupae cocooned in additional webs on some of the undergrowth (main). Not sure what the trees were - they were stripped of leaves, though some buds were beginning to develop to replace them. We hadn't seen the next stage in the life cycle before so though it'd be an interesting Blip, despite the difficult lighting conditions. Needless to say, I won't be using these photos for publicity, though some of the children might like them!!
