Battle of Prestonpans

The embroidered Prestonpans Tapestry tells the story of Bonnie Prince Charlie when he tried to capture the British throne that he regarded was rightfully his, from his journey leaving France up to his victory over the Hanoverian army at the Battle of Prestonpans in 1745. Local peoples sewed scenes depicting the actual events that had happened in their area, working to guidelines by Andrew Crummy. With its 104 panels it is about 30 metres longer then the Bayeux Tapestry and there are plans for a purpose built pavilion nearby where it can be displayed properly. Meanwhile it is on display in Musselburgh for 3 days close to the battle site before going on tour again including to Bayeux this Autumn. The needlework and historical accuracy is amazing with some very amusing little pictures and signs, and although I'd seen it before it was well worth seeing again.
The middle panel on the bottom shows Pinkie House where the Prince stayed for a night after the battle and where the exhibition is being held until Wednesday.
