Orientation
A field orientation trip begins today, taking me to various parts of the Ruvuma landscape in southern Tanzania, where the programme is active. A colleague from the UK office is joining for part of the itinerary and the plan is to meet with various project partners, communities and colleagues along the way. I’m looking forward to absorbing all the new information and striking up new relationships.
Day 1 involved a long journey from Dar es Salaam to the fringes of Nyerere National Park. We first headed west to the city of Morogoro and then turned south through the stunning scenery of the Uluguru Mountains. The road was rough and winding and my brain was rattled to the core. As we neared our destination it was exciting to cross the tracks of the famous TAZARA railway that links Tanzania and Zambia. We dropped our visiting colleague off at a lodge in the hills whilst the rest of us bedded down in a very non-descript village by the name of Kisaki.
How fantastic to be seeing more of this beautiful country.
