Juneteenth/Fathers Day
Big R chose to chill out today only , but I found a new pizza place ton treat him too with outside riverside dining. We got a delicious wood fired pizza and found a table away from others near the water. Pizza was delicious and the tiny walk by the river was pretty .
Juneteenth will be officially celebrated as a federal holiday tomorrow altho there were several events going on today in Seattle. Altho America had celebrated July 4th as Independence Day, true independence for all Americas didn’t come til June 19th 1865 when union troops arrived in Galveston , Tx announcing that slaves were emancipated two years prior . This is part of American history that was known in Black communities ,but largely unknown to most white Americans. It’s just another part of erased American history that we , as Americans, need to be educated about and to fully embrace. Black history is American history.
Today I also remember fondly my own Dad William aka Bill, my husband R who is a loving Dad to our beautiful son and father M !
