Lichen

On a tree trunk adjacent to the walking track above our house. Although I was a chemistry teacher I also taught biology in my early years and still remember that a lichen is a result of a symbiotic relationship between a a fungus and and alga.Funny how this has stuck in my head since the 1970's.
