Queens
The day started off with little plans, so I decided to head to the Flatiron. I missed seeing this building the last time I was in New York, so it was on my to do list. What a wonderful building it is too.
After getting some breakfast I headed down to Washington Square Park where there were people playing banjo's, saxaphones and playing chess. The sun was out, so I took full advantage of this and just sat people watching.
Next up was Bryant Park and the Public Library. The park is a wonderful little haven in amongst the buildings. Again I sat down to do a little people watching when the one and only Bill Cunningham walked passed me. An incredible photographer, I spent a couple of minutes just watching him in action. Photographing people and the flowers. I just got up to go talk to him when I gentleman named Willie decided to come over to talk to me. Being who I am I couldn't ignore him and by the time we said goodbye Bill Cunningham was no where to be seen. The man in the blue coat was gone. Perhaps that was best though, I was left with the memory of seeing the great photographer in action. At that point I headed into the Public Library. Another wonderful building, although a little disappointing that everyone is now on their computers instead of their heads in a book. (I always head that image of rows and rows of people reading - the age of technology I guess).
After Bryant Park, I jumped onto the subway to Queens to see 5 pointz. Wow, what an phenomenal building. A 200,000 sq foot factory building covered in graffiti. I spent quite a while just walking around and taking it all in. Those artists have so much talent.
The night finished with meeting two fellow blippers Giacomo and LeeAnne. What wonderful people they are. We got some food then headed over to Brooklyn to see the Manhattan skyline at night. (Make sure you go see there photos, they are fab). Thank you so much Giacomo and LeeAnne for the company tonight, it really was wonderful to meet you both
