Derby and Sandiacre Canal

My journal has taken on a canal theme in the last few days. On Saturday I blipped the Worcester and Birmingham Canal near Hopwood and on Thursday the disused Dudley No.2 Canal in Halesowen.

Today this theme continues with a shot of the bridge which takes the A6 London Road across the former Derby and Sandiacre Canal. The canal has been filled in and an excellent footpath and cycle track runs along much of its route, but in 2011 a £45m plan to restore the canal was approved by Derby City Council.

It will be a very long term project and strikes me as even more ambitious than restoring the Dudley No.2 Canal.
