Dark-green Fritillary
Day #22 of #30dayswild began with early morning quadrats at Collyweston Quarries NR. One of my quadrats was located close to a small Hawthorn bush that Welsh Chafers were using as a gathering place - interesting to watch their behaviour, including some definite tussles (see extra).
By eleven it was getting uncomfortably hot so I headed home via Bedford Purlieus NNR, where the Dark-green Fritillaries were out in force, alongside plenty of Marbled Whites and a solitary, rather tattered Painted Lady. I was also quite surprised to see that the genuinely native Columbine was still in flower!
