Poppies
I am enjoying these wild poppies growing on the side of the road and everywhere else at the moment. This was taken with a long lens to get that compressed background effect.
We are all looking forward to going to the opera festival at Glyndebourne on Sunday - I planned it about 6 months ago, booked tickets as soon as I could, and everyone is excited about going. So all week I have been watching the weather forecast hoping it will be a good day, as in the past we have always been blessed with dry and sunny weather. For the first time we are all going, the boys and their girlfriends. The girls have been planning their outfits, as tradition is that you dress in formal evening wear but anything bold and alternative is encouraged too.
So today it was a blow to hear that Meriel was stuck in Edinburgh (where she has been all week for work) and could not get back to London due to a problem on the train line, and tomorrow of course there is another train strike so there are no trains running. We were beginning to get very worried, there were people blocking the train station and no taxis or buses to be found and we did not know how she would get back. This is after a tough week, as she works for the Civil Service in the Levelling Up department dealing with the Scottish Union. It's a job, not her political choice. Anyway she managed to get to Glasgow and thankfully got a train back to London, but now there are still no trains available from Edinburgh or Glasgow.
I went off to buy all the ingredients for the picnic at Glyndebourne, which I will prepare tomorrow. Now fingers crossed and doing a rain jig to hope it is sunny and dry on Sunday!
Edit : Just seen the news about the US Court ending citizens constitutional right to an abortion - I am aghast at this decision
