Easily mistaken for a piece of plastic,  at 2cm long, these little things - a colonial hydroid for those who need to know - just float around on the ocean waves blown by the wind.
They are meant to be on warm seas so this one has got siginificantly lost on Uist. They do have the tendency to get blown ashore in hundreds or even thousands if the weather is against them.Today we found just just two on the beach we were on.
