Theatrical And Wild*

Didn't have much time for photography today but Ollie dog indulged me on our after lunch walk. It was trying to rain and I found this very accommodating small skipper. I love the big eyes and mousy-looking 'faces' of these little butterflies. The bright yellow in my images is Potentilla, creeping cinquefoil. My second extra shows the very long proboscis.

*The scientific name of this butterfly is Thymelicus sylvestris. I thought it was something to do with thyme but evidently it means theatrical and wild.
