What a horrible day
The federally protected right to abortion was just rescinded today by a supreme court with a majority (6-3) of conservative judges (3 of whom appointed by Trump; 6 of them Catholics — when the US has only 22% of catholics).
It is now up to each State to decide/legislate abortion rights: it’s expected that half the states will ban abortion right away.
As i mentioned earlier gay marriage is next in line. This is an excerpt of today’s decision, drafted by Thomas, which makes specific reference to that ruling: "In future cases, we should reconsider all of this Court’s substantive due process precedents, including Griswold, Lawrence, and Obergefell,” Thomas wrote. “Because any substantive due process decision is ‘demonstrably erroneous’ … we have a duty to ‘correct the error’ established in those precedents.”
It’s devastating.
