Gingerly crossing the aqueduct
Plan changed! We crossed the aqueduct Friday morning instead of Saturday.
We were fortunate to follow a boat through the narrowest sections of the canal from Llangollen this morning. The journey after that was very relaxing as we were going with the current rather than having to push against it yesterday on the way to Llangollen.
Trevor basin was chockablock with boats and littered with canoeists. We were unable to find a berth and informed there were easier berths to be found the other side of the aqueduct.
After a fair bit of dancing around at the basin, avoiding canoeists and paddle boarders we were able to get on to the aqueduct and enjoy the airy experience again, this time providing security for a lady who was rather unsure of the whole experience.
We moored up had lunch, called in a Sian’s Garden Cafe overlooking the canal for coffee and scones with jam and cream. Special scones too; blueberry and lemon and rhubarb and ginger with jams of the same ingredients!
Crossing the aqueduct once again we followed Offa’s Dyke path up to the Panorama Way high above the Dee Valley and a fine view of Castell Dinas Bran then descending to the canal towpath, a pint at the Sun Inn and the walk back to the boat crossing the aqueduct for a final time.
Last night aboard. Most things packed and ready to offload in the morning. No internet signal so I’m having to post this Saturday morning.
Thank you for visiting the journal over the week and for me not often responding. Your comments and favourites have been very much appreciated and I know many of you have enjoyed travelling alongside.
