Exploratory operation

The ventilation control on the van has been stuck on "windscreen" for some time now.  Needing cool air in the face these last two days I enquired about a new control panel.  £195 from VW, plus fitting.  But there are none available.

Ironically it was a lot cooler today with showers, so time for a bit of DIY dissection.  Thank you to those altruistic souls who put up their home made videos on YouTube of how to do things: that saved a lot of time and frustration as you never really know whether parts should be prized off or whether you have not undone something.

Eventually gained access to the controls.  I could see the problem straight away.  Basically a piece of crap design involving a flimsy piece of plastic which had cracked, allowing the control dial to become misaligned.  Something like 'beam's gone askew on t'treadle'.  

So a bit of manipulation then reinforcement with twisty wire and I was able to select other parts of the van for the airflow.  The repair might not last but it's satisfying.  Hope it all goes back together.
